WHAT’S VITAL?
In the physical world, a doctor checks a person’s “vitals” by measuring blood pressure, heart beat, pulse, temperature and respiration. He is looking to see if something is amiss or hoping for some indication of improvement in health.
Whatever is “vital” in life is extremely important for survival or continued effectiveness.
Measuring spiritual “vitals” isn’t as easy. What’s the temperature of our relationship with Jesus Christ. Is His Kingdom our primary concern? Does our heart beat in desperation for Him? Are we breathing Him in? Do we seek Him daily or try to make it on our own. Does our life flow out of the Spirit within? This section of study will focus on the importance of making Jesus Christ our top priority in life. We’re going to check our “vitals” together…I especially like the NIV version for this particular lesson.

My prayer is that even if you don’t comment on our page, you will read these verses and allow God to speak to you through them. Think about these truths this week, and allow them to resonate in your heart. They are life changing!
May God bless the study of His Word.
I hope you’ll join in the conversation for the first lesson in our new series.
FROM ORLANDO FL We are given life and death – blessing and cursing – we are supposed to choose life and we and our seed may live.
The LORD is my everything – HE is my live – HE sent HIS son so that we could have life and server HIM with all our hearts – HE sends us Angels to help us in our life decisions and to bless us each day of our lives.
We are to love the LORD our GOD – walk in HIS ways – keep HIS commandments – statutes and HIS judgments – for us to live and multiply – you and I will be blessed where every we are or go in our lives.
Set our hearts towards HIM and command our children to do the same – the word of the law of GOD – we will prolong our days in the LORD.
We are to live on the WORD OF GOD – which will be our manna – we do not live by bread only – but by the words from the LORD.
The WORD OF THE LORD will quicken us each day of our lives – My hope is to live my life to the fullest IN THE LORD – help lead others to HIM and always testify of HIS goodness all of my life.
Thanks so much Karen – for the wonderful BIBLE STUDY – they are so wonderful and uplifting by studying HIS WORD. GOD is so good to all of us.
Yes, Odella, we are to choose life. And He is our life, like you said. So is His Word which we feed on, finding strength, nourishment and hope. He is vital to our well being! Always love your comments. Thanks for getting this conversation going!
This really hits home with what The Lord has been showing me in my life the last couple weeks. My husband hurt his back & went on disability a few weeks ago. I was fearful at first (we have never been so poor as we are now with our daughter away at college) Jim won’t get his 1st check for a month & at first I panicked! I began to feel The Lord tell me my hope & provision does not come from Jim or UPS! Christ is my provision, my hope, my protecter, & He will take care if us & provide ALL of our needs if we trust & look to Him in everything! I am excited to see all that happens while Jim is off work, through the surgery, & recovery & until he is able to return to work! Thank you for this Karen! Another reminder God is our lifeline!!! And He is MORE than enough!
I love God’s timing. It encourages me to know that this lesson spoke to your situation. He IS our lifeline. I love the picture of God throwing me a life preserver! I have found that to be His Word which is vital for my existence. I heard once that every day we should say to the Lord, “I am helplesss without You and totally dependent on You.” I pray that you will find Him to be everything you need, Teresa. During this difficult time may He reveal Himself to you as the God who provides everything you need for life and godliness.
Studing, reading and living by God’s Word IS vital to living out the Gospel in our lives. I have heard that the Bible is God’s love letter to us. He has written His Word by holy men spoken to by the Holy Spirit for our learning and growing. I find myself more and more in His Word everyday for strength and encouragement, for guidance and peace. Life is more than food…life is for the Lord and it is TRUSTING God for the big and small things in our everyday, every moment lives.
Thank you for reminding us that we have a love letter from the Almighty to read every day, which is the source of our strength, encouragement, and direction. Trusting God is where it’s at!! He truly is our life, and His Word feed our souls. Thanks for your wonderful comments, Anita.
My favorite part in what I read today was “These are not idle words.” What a statement. So much truth packed into those 5 little words. How I try to stress certain things when talking to my children…and how many times does it feel like they’re NOT listening! So many places in scripture, you will see God say “Listen to me!” It’s like trying to get the attention of a child…we are so busy minded. I pray I will get settled back into my morning routine of coffee, prayer, scripture, quiet. I have been caught up in “busy” the last few weeks and have fallen out of my morning God-time routine. It’s so important and VITAL to setting up how the rest of my day goes! Even if my circumstances don’t change that day, my mindset DOES. Love this lesson Karen!
I know just what you mean, Tara. That statement about idle words gets me every time I read it. God’s Word is not just page after page of trifles (as some translations interpret it). God’s Word is LIFE! It is vital to listen to those words. To know them, meditate on them, and speak them. And it is vital to each of us to make time to do that. Thanks for allowing us to see that we’re not alone in our struggles to keep that routine going. May the Lord help each one of us to make Him vital every day!!
I was struck by the same portion as Tara. “These are not idle words.” One of the things I have to work on each time I’m reading the Word is to make sure I am truly focusing on it. It’s so easy to get caught up in just covering the material. “There, I’ve done my Bible reading for the day.” That is mostly wasting time, not fellowshipping with Him. I say mostly because He sometimes breaks through my covering the material and gets my attention. I am very thankful for those moments, but know it is much more meaningful to truly focus on what He is saying to me from beginning to end. When I visit with a friend, I don’t just let their word slide past me, but I listen. His words are so much more valuable to me than anyone else’s. He deserves my full attention when He speaks to me.
Oh, how I identify, Peggy. It’s so easy to feel good about ourselves by checking it off our list rather than truly fellowshipping with our Lord. I remember years ago after finishing my quiet time the Lord spoke to my heart not to leave him at the couch. We do our duty, check it off our list, and go on our merry way. He wants us to actually feed on His Word. Chew on truth. Apply it to our circumstances. And walk with Him throughout the day, conversing and taking little praise pauses along the way. That’s true fellowship! Thanks for reminding us of that.
