Higher Ground
I can still hear her singing. My mother’s high-pitched, frail voice ringing out from her room. “Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.” This old hymn of the church was one of her favorites.
In past lessons we’ve discussed living in places of unbelief, like Kadesh Barnea; or places of bitterness, like Marah; or places of limitation like LoDebar. Today starts a new series of lessons on striving for higher ground. It’s so easy to stay in the pits, responding to difficult circumstances with bitterness and complaining. Let’s not go there. Hear the Lord’s challenge, “Come up higher.”
The Lord desires we see things from a higher perspective. Instead of giving in to despair, may we aim for higher ground. “My heart has no desire to stay where doubts arise and fears dismay; though some may dwell where these abound, my prayer, my aim is higher ground.”

5. Where does the Lord set us in the day of trouble?
Notice all of the above verses refer to a higher place. From God being called the Most High to our being set on a high rock, we get the picture…higher ground! The Amplified Bible translates the proverb like this, “The path of the wise leads upward to life that he may avoid the gloom in the place of the dead.” What a picture Solomon paints here! Our Most High God provides a higher way that leads to life. Let’s be intentional to take the high road toward the victorious, abundant life God has planned for us. Again, it’s our choice.
The way of live is above for the wise person – we do not want to go to hell below. The path of the upright and righteous is made plain. The name given to GOD – the high GOD – our possessor of heaven and earth. There is the song again – Lead me to that rock that is higher than I – I also love to hear that song and sing it around the house – I am so glad we have that rock to turn to in our lives – the rock is always there to be with us. You and I are hidden in HIS pavilion – in the secret tabernacle will we be hidden and HE shall set me upon a rock.
Yes it is our choice as going to the higher place to dwell with the LORD and all of HIS angels – and once of these days very soon – JESUS is coming for us who are ready to go up much higher with HIM – HEAVEN.
Again – wonderful Lesson – Karen – love them and love to dwell on them for days or even until the next lesson comes out. Thanks – Karen
