RECALL, REHEARSE AND REPEAT
The card came in the mail. A recall notice on our vehicle. An auto part found to be deficient. The word went out. Let us remedy the problem. No charge. We weren’t even aware there was a problem. But bring it back we did. (Do you recall or bring back to mind what God has done for you?)
Weekly choir rehearsal. Repetitive exercises. Many hours of practice. Going over lyrics and melodies so many times they become second nature. Doing something over and over again until you get it right. (What truths do you rehearse until they are part of you?)
If we repeat our testimony about God, it helps us “not forget” what He has done. The word repeat means to say something over many times. Repeat your personal stories of blessings and victories to others. Tell of God’s goodness. Let the whole world know what God has done for you. (What personal stories should you repeat in proclaiming the Gospel message?)
Check out these verses in your favorite version of the Bible, but make sure you read Psalm 105 in The Message version as well.
Read Psalm 19:1-4
1. Who repeats God’s glory without words? Take time to meditate on this powerful passage.
Read Romans 10:17-18
2. How is the message of faith spread to others? How is the question in verse 18 answered, “Did they not hear?”
Read Psalm 105:1-2 (The Message)
3. What are we to tell everyone we meet? What do these verses say about music?
Read Read Psalm 40:2-3
4. What specific things does David say God has done for him? Note what happens when others know what God has done.
Read Psalm 40:9-10
5. What does David do in these verses to make sure others hear the message?
Note the importance of recalling, rehearsing, and repeating. These things help us remember God’s goodness, while allowing others to hear the Gospel message through us.
Take some time to look up a few verses this week. You’ll be glad you did!
I am thankful for the Word of God, His Holy scriptures! His heavens, creation declare His glory without words. His glory is revealed in natural revelation through creation. Faith in Christ comes through hearing (oral speaking) the Word, the Gospel. But in verse 18 we are told they have already heard and that was through creation. Yet that does not excuse us from telling others about what God has done for us, He has told us to do so. In Psalm 105 He tells us to Praise The Lord, tell all what He has done for us, sing praise to His name, celebrate, worship, trust Him and remember His works and all His wonders! Lord may I strive to live a life worthy of your calling!
Beautiful thoughts, Anita. Faith does come through hearing the Word of God, like Scripture says, and there’s something beautiful meditating on the truth that creation speaks without words. You’re right that it doesn’t excuse us from declaring our faith, but it also confirms how important our actions are.
The heavens repeats GOD’S glory without words and the firmament show all of HIS handy work – Oh – how beautiful it is not to even utter a word and yet have all of the knowledge and it is in all speeches and languages – GOD is so wonderful to each one of us also. The LORD has heard their desires and has caused their ears to hear HIM – not to judge the fatherless or the oppressed – for the people of earth not to be oppressed any more – GOD is so good and takes care of each one of us – we are not to judge anyone else along our way – less we be judged – GOD is to do the judging. Each one is to give thanks at all times unto the LORD – we must call upon HIS name at all times – we need to be telling all people about HIM and HIS goodness and what he has done in our lives – we need to sing until HIM – PRAISES – PSALMS unto HIM and tell of HIS wondrous works – we are the only book that some people see during the weeks when we are out and our lives should really be telling others of HIM. We must sing Psalms until to HIM each day of our lives. David says GOD brought him up out of a horrible pit – out of miry clay – and set his feet upon a rock – The LORD has also done this for all of us – GOD has made a way where there is no way we can see before us – GOD puts a new song in our mouths – Praises – and many people see this in our lives – we can be a witness to GOD in our lives – we must always TRUST the LORD each day – OH how good GOD is to us.
David told everyone about GOD’S righteousness – David did not refrain his lips about the things of the LORD – We must declare the LORD’s faithfulness and salvation – we must tell about HIS loving kindness and all of HIS truths to everyone. OH – how wonderful to be serving the LORD during our lives and telling other about HIS goodness – they say all some people see is the things in our lives – How much more you and I really need to be telling other about HIM all the time.
You brought out some beautiful truths from these scriptures, Odella. I love where you write that we are the only book that some people see during the week. May we be like the heavens declaring His glory without words just by the way we live and respond to people. Yet we also read David did not refrain his lips but declared the Lord’s faithfulness. May the Lord give us all wisdom to know when to speak His truths to others and how to quietly live our lives to bring glory back to God.
My husband & I got to experience this lesson last night. We attended a “Family Life” marriage building dinner. It was a wonderful night, we had cards on our tables & we had to share things with the other couples at our table. How we met, a time when God intervened in our marriage, what we wished we we knew when we got married that we know now… It was so much fun listening to the other couples stories & remembering & telling our own! We renewed our vows at the end of the night & I felt very close to Jim & thankful to God to see how Christ has been at work in our lives all through the years & how much closer & stronger we are today than 24 years ago when we took that leap of faith together. What a refresing time of recalling , remembering, telling what God has done!
How beautiful, Teresa! I love the intentionality of this experience, taking time to tell your stories to encourage others in the process. You truly were recalling and remembering and repeating what God has done!
I like the Psalm 19 passage and how it reads in The Message – Madame Day and Professor Night! Like they are speaking to us reminding us of God’s craft.
