Devoted
Spending time in God’s Word and in His presence has affected who I am and the choices I’ve made. I realize how needy I am for Him. I truly can’t make it without God in my life.
One of the worship songs my sons wrote says, “Jesus, I’m lost without you; all I want, all I need is all of You.” This should be our daily cry in building our relationship with Jesus Christ. Are we desperate for Him? Do we require Him as the most necessary component of our life, or is He merely an after thought once our own efforts have failed? Is Jesus your ALL ? Consider these verses.
Read Luke 10:38-42
1. What was Mary’s vital necessity?
2. How was Martha distracted?
3. What did Martha ask of the Lord?
4. How did the Lord chide Martha, showing how vital her sister’s choice had been?
Read Jeremiah 30:21
5. What question is asked at the end of this verse?
The verse in Jeremiah leaped off the page at me the first time I read it. I found myself stunned by the question, yet desiring to answer, “It’s me, Lord! I will!”
How will you answer the question of Jeremiah? To whom or what will you devote yourself? Meditate on this verse today.
From Orlando, FL.
Mary’s job was to sit at the feet of Jesus and worship HIM at all times – while Martha was taken up by the serving and cleaning for the others – Mary chose the best part – Martha was troubled by her sister Mary not helping her and asked JESUS to make her come and help – but JESUS would not ask her to leave because Mary was doing the best thing and it would not be taken away from her – sitting at the feet of JESUS is always the best place for a person to be – OH – how wonderful it is just to be in HIS presence during times – In Jeremiah – JESUS wanted to know who is this that has approached me – that is a wonderful verse in the BIBLE – I would be like you – Karen – I would want to answer – LORD it is I just wanting to come and sit with you today. JESUS is the best thing in my life during the long days – I love to start each morning with JESUS – reading – praying – studying and applying it to my life – JUST TO BE WITH JESUS in prayer time each morning means the world to me in my life – I just want HIM to guide me during each day – let me be a help to someone during the day – Wonderful lesson again – Karen – thank you so much for this Bible study program – I am enjoying it so much – GOD bless you.
There you go, Odella, inspiring me once again! I totally agree that Mary’s devotion to Jesus is a great example to us. We sit at his feet when we study His Word and spend time worshiping and praying. Who is it that will devote himself to be close to Me, asks the Lord. Yes, let it be us who make it this practice a vital part of our lives.
Oh how often we forget it is all by God’s plan and not our own. In Jeremiah 30:21 it says (amp Bible) I will cause him to draw near and he will approach me…in God’s sovereignty HE CAUSES us to be drawn to Him, nothing of our own doing. Thank you Lord that you do draw us through many different trials and circumstances. He will draw us… WE must be listening to Him…Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I AM GOD…” Listen for Him by getting the busyness of life away from us! In the New Living translation Luke 10:42 says “There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” I am thankful that The Lord has shown me this in my life…I must strive daily to put Him and His Word first!
Love the verses you shared Anita! Good addition to our study!
I’m afraid I get too caught up, way too often, in the Martha syndrome. It is one of the main struggles of my Christian walk. I am forever having to remind myself of the verse “In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.” Proverbs 3:6 When I do this, life just works so much better, even when things aren’t going well. When I don’t do it, there is an underlying sense of unease. I need His presence and to be listening for His voice or life just seems to empty out of peace and joy.
I totally identify Peggy! I love that you shared that verse.
Great lesson Karen!
